Spring has sprung, but do you still feel heavy and sluggish from the winter hibernation? If so, it’s time to throw off that winter coat and have a spring clean. A spring clean is also known as a detox or cleanse.
So, why do we need to detox?
It is estimated that a staggering 80,000 chemicals are released into the atmosphere each year, of which only about 5,000 have been tested to determine if they are safe for us. These chemicals end up in our drinking water, in soil used for agriculture and in our atmosphere which we breathe in.
But environmental toxins are not the only culprits. Our homes are laden with them. For example:
In your pantry and fridge - processed foods that are laden with unhealthy fats, sugar and salt
In the kitchen and laundry - household cleaners, disinfectant, bleach, washing powder
In the bathroom - antibacterial soap, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, skin care, cosmetics
Toxins can affect every system in our body, which results in less than optimal health and vitality, and this can lead to illness and disease.
Is this cause for concern?
Absolutely…..however it is almost impossible to get away from toxic chemicals. They are everywhere! Our best defense is our body and its awesome detoxification systems!
Our bodies are amazing machines, capable of handling these toxins. However just like your car, your body needs a regular tune-up. Without a regular tune-up, you might start needing minor repairs, then it might be major repairs and in time you may need a whole engine overhaul.
So what can you do?
The liver is our major organ of detoxification, closely followed by the kidneys, intestines, lymphatics, lungs and skin. By cleansing these organs we can help to improve digestive function, skin conditions, energy levels, immune system, hormone function and more.
